About Child & Family Services
Nurturing Hope, Resilience & Well-Being
WellPower's Child & Family Services assists children and their families by supporting their overall health and well-being. We provide opportunities to learn how to raise happy and healthy children as they grow. We also have specific supports for parents raising foster children and grandparents raising grandchildren.
Program Highlight: Minecraft
When the COVID-19 pandemic forced many of our clinicians to exclusively provide services remotely, one team from our Child & Family Services department decided to try Minecraft as a way to engage with the children they serve in their own world. Four years later, the Minecraft program is not only still around, but it's thriving.
With a staff of 10 clinicians and multiple Minecraft worlds, the team has expanded the program to serve children ages 6 through 17, offers clinical therapies like Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), as well as providing the space for many of Child & Family Services' groups.
This program is particularly meaningful for kids who were dealing with isolation or language disparity long before the pandemic began. Children who may experience extreme social anxiety in person find solace in the Minecraft program. Behind the safety of their avatar, they can express their feelings, share resources with friends, engage in play therapy and show their clinicians what's going on in their minds in ways they feel safe.
What does your support do?
With your help, programs like this can use donations to purchase the necessary tools that provide access for more children throughout the metro Denver area. Whenever possible, WellPower tries to make sure that there are no cost barriers to entry for people using our services, so donations from generous people like you can help us ensure all people we serve have access to these innovative programs.
About Teen & Young Adult Services
Our programs for teens and young adults are specially designed to address the needs of adolescents in their transition to adulthood.
Program Highlight: Emerson St. for Teens & Young Adults
Teens and young adults are faced with enormous pressure and stress in today's world, which can create trauma, mental health challenges and difficult situations teens don't always know how to handle. The amazing team with WellPower's Emerson St. for Teens & Young Adults makes an enormous difference in the lives of the young people we serve. In addition to the "standard" care offerings from a community mental health center, like psychiatry, therapy, counseling and medication management, Emerson St. also offers prevention groups, which are focused on socializing with peers, exploring new hobbies and getting out into the community for activities and adventure. Young people in the Emerson St. program have been able to go on mountain retreats, have movie afternoons, play Dungeons & Dragons and so much more, thanks to the facilitation of Emerson St.'s staff.
What does your support do?
With your help, we can provide more supplies for group activities, plan outings within the community, bring in experts to teach classes and so much more. These experiences are pivotal for young people who may otherwise feel isolated and alone. Programs like Emerson St. brings people together in unique ways, so they have a safety net of supportive adults and peers. Your donation can directly impact our capacity to provide these experiences.
About Adult Recovery Services
At WellPower, we believe that recovery and well-being are possible for everyone. Each person comes to us with a unique set of treatment needs, goals and challenges, and our Adult Recovery Services are committed to providing those served with the right treatment at the right time.
Program Highlight: NextChapter
When asked what the word "rehabilitation" reminds them of, many people will go straight to substance use disorder recovery. While that's a valid definition, WellPower also offers another method of rehabilitation services: NextChapter.
WellPower's NextChapter program focuses on the social determinants of health - the things we do every day for our well-being, how we fulfill our basic needs and how we build relationships and community. We provide education and employment support, peer support, computer classes, a culinary training program, a full art studio, music lessons and so much more.
NextChapter offers services and programming that often provides the launch point for people we serve to feel comfortable getting back to leading independent lives, and many of these services aren't billable. That's a problem.
What does your support do?
When you make a donation to WellPower, you support rehabilitation and prevention programming, such as art, music, food, peer support, groups and more for the people we serve. Your gift can also make a huge difference in the lives of people we serve experiencing homelessness. WellPower works to facilitate housing for the people in our services who need it, and donations from our community allow us to provide a safe place for people to feel and be well.

WellPower in Nursing Homes
As we age, many individuals find that their spheres of community shrink. They leave the house less, health problems arise, loneliness sets in and that can lead to feelings of depression. With WellPower's liaisons to nursing homes and senior care centers in Denver, we help ensure that older adults not only receive important mental health care, but that there are opportunities for connection and support.
Clinicians in our nursing home liaison program provide mental health care to seniors in their own spaces. By bringing support directly to residents, our staff are able to provide planned and in-the-moment care for older adults with complex needs.
"The feedback from the community is that our program is rare," said Stephanie Majka, assistant program manager. "There are not many programs that offer therapy, case management and psychotropic medication management within nursing facilities. Our team works hard to integrate ourselves within the living environment and collaborate with the facility staff. WellPower provides expertise in the treatment of significant and persistent mental health diagnoses like bipolar, schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorders. Our buildings trust us so much with the support and care of significant mental health disorders, that they work directly with the inpatient psychiatric units to accept individuals that have been difficult to house in the community."
